Last week, REC joined a variety of construction professionals at the GMCC Construction Summit 2015 (Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce). Held in Emirates Old Trafford on the 15th July, REC delegates attending included John Goodwin, Principal Consultant of Acoustics, Sarah Clinton, an Air Quality Consultant and Vicky Timson, Principal Consultant of Geo-environmental.
Issues such as devolution and the Northern Powerhouse were debated alongside topics such as future pressures and opportunities in the sector. Other key themes were concerns about skills shortages in the sector, and the importance of working more collaboratively together, both at sector level and more widely between cities. This is particularly important as the Northern Powerhouse relies on the some of our best loved cities in the north striving to reach a common goal.
Speakers included the Government’s Chief Construction Advisor Peter Hansford, Chamber Vice President Steve Burne from AEW Architects and Sarah Fenton from CITB. The afternoon session featured a key-note address from Manchester City Council’s Chief Executive, Sir Howard Bernstein, who talked about how collaboration between all northern cities is vital for future growth.
As a multi-disciplinary consultancy, REC are heavily involved within the construction sector for a wide range of clients, providing specialist advice and support for a number of the region’s biggest developments and house-hold sector names. Our delegates, therefore, found the Conference extremely inspiring, and look forward to attending similar events from the Chamber of Commerce in the near future.
