REC Ltd was commissioned by Barnsley Retail Partnership to undertake an Air Quality Assessment for a new food store and associated facilities and the site has just been granted full planning consent.
Located at the intersection of New Street, Wood Street, Heelis Street and Westway, the 116,000sq ft store will also have a six pump petrol filling station and benefit from 542 car parking spaces.
Concerns were raised over potential impacts of the development in a number of areas with poor air quality. REC’s Air Quality consultants were able to undertake a detailed assessment of the proposed scheme and conclude that impacts would not be significant at any sensitive location.
Barnsley Retail Partnership are working in conjunction with Spectrum Alpha Property to deliver the food store. Peter Macfarlane, Managing Director of Spectrum said “we will now be working very hard with the Council to deliver our proposals, which will underpin this location as the food quarter of Barnsley. This is a major commitment by ourselves and our partners would hope to be able to announce further progress in the near future.”
