Noise Assessment

Noise Assessment Image

REC’s acoustic engineers specialise in noise assessment services in support of planning applications or noise assessments to satisfy noise at work regulations. REC provide a wide range of noise assessment and acoustic testing services for both public and private sector clients.

A noise assessment is a complex requirement and one that requires accurate and competent advice. REC provide noise assessment services including a workplace noise assessment in compliance with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 or an environmental noise assessment to maintain compliance with PPG24 planning requirements.

Noise at Work

It is now a legal requirement as an employer to carefully assess and identify measures in which to eliminate or effectively reduce the risks of exposure to noise in order to protect the hearing of employees.

Where risks identified are currently low, the actions required may be simple and low cost, but where the risks are identified as high, these risks should be managed in accordance with a noise-control action plan.

Environmental Noise

Noise related issues are often overlooked at the initial design and planning stages of a future development project. This often leads to operational problems and noise related nuisance complaints.

Local Authorities under section 60 of the Control of Pollution Act now specify noise levels that are permitted to be emitted from construction sites, the often hidden and overlooked costs of poor acoustic sites are often significant.

The Town and Country Planning Regulations requires an environmental assessment (including a noise assessment) before planning permission is granted on certain types of projects. Working in conjunction with the Geoenvironmental and Air Quality divisions REC Acoustics can provide full environmental assessment services.

Noise Assessment Services

REC’s acoustic engineers are all members of the institute of acoustics and are highly experience in determining current noise exposures using appropriate instrumentation, noise measurement and noise analysis techniques.

All noise assessment results are carefully analysed and presented incorporating immediate actions where necessary and future actions required in order to satisfy current noise regulations.
