REC Ltd, Slope Stability Assessments and Stability Improvements

Slope Stability

Printable Datasheet

Why are Slope Stability Issues Important?

REC is aware that abrupt changes in ground level can often affect both the stability of existing and proposed structures. The stability of slopes on site can often generate perceived risks, normally around site boundaries where there is clearly a potential to incur third party liabilities.

Engineering works on site, including cut-and-fill operations can exaggerate slopes on site to the extent that they may become of concern unless a detailed stability assessment is undertaken.

Slope Stability Improvements, What steps can be taken to improve Slope Stability?

REC can carry out a number of measures to improve stability;

Soil nailing
Soil reinforcement
Establishment of vegetation
Vertical and lateral drainage
Provision of cantilever or toe-weight
Soil densification by ground treatment

Integrated Ground Investigations for consideration of Slope Stability Aspects:

REC can carry out a number of slope stability assessments;

Total and effective stress analyses
Translational slide
Circular rotational slips
Non-circular rotational slips
Wedge sliding
Toppling

These analyses use traditional geotechnical theories and slope stability software packages, some commercially available and utilising finite element modelling capabilities and others developed in-house. For example;

Janbu
Skempton
Bishop & Morgensten

Summary of Slope Stability Services

REC can undertake a number of ground investigation techniques incorporating a number of monitoring devices to enable a detailed stability assessment to be completed;

Pore water pressure measurement
Establishment of seepage pressures
Inclinometer measurements
Settlement
Magnetic extensometer

Summary of Key Benefits of using REC Ltd:

REC can determine if there are any inter-related technical aspects by their combined investigation services and thus ensure that a cost effective service is provided to all Clients.
