Former Gasworks Site, on site since 2003.

REC identified significant coal tar, hydrocarbon and asbestos contamination of soils and groundwater beneath the site.

Working alongside the client, and in conjunction with SEPA and the local authority REC Ltd developed a remediation plan.

Removed Asbestos and Asbestos contaminated materials.

REC supervised the removal off-site of approximately 9,500 tonnes of coal tar laden soils to a licensed landfill site.

To date approximately 2,000m³ of hydrocarbon-contaminated soils have successfully been biologically treated and have been certified as suitable for re-use on the site.

A further 1,900m³ of material is being currently being treated, with a further 700m3 designated for treatment in due course.

This methodology has saved the client over £1 million to date.
